If I point people to sermon resources, I’m almost always pointing people to Tim Keller, Matt Chandler or Mark Driscoll. These are simply the best in my book…especially Tim Keller. However, I’ll occassionally be excited enough about a series of messages we’ve done at CityView Church that I want to share. While I might have done a few things different in our most recent series, I’m extrememely proud of the overall feel and direction it took.
The series was called “The Road Less Traveled–Journey to the Cross”. The thrust of the series is that while we often teach the proactive disciplines of a disciple (praying, studying, fasting, etc.), we don’t always touch on the “reactive disciplines”–the character that’s built in us over time as life happens. In other words, it’s one thing to plan to study, fast, etc….but quite another thing to react/respond when a moment (or opportunity) comes upon us.
Using Jesus’ journey to the cross as the context, we learn that the reactive disciplines have as much (if not more) to do with the character that Christ forms in us than the planned disciplines. With that indroduction, here’s a listing of the sermons in the series–each sermon is linked for you to either listen online or download (you may also podcast using the link to the left).
THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED-JOURNEY TO THE CROSS
Week 1: “Need a Funeral?” – the discipline of death and mourning
Week 2: “Humility on Demand” – the discipline of serving from a heart of humility
Week 3: “Putting Away my Rights” – the discipline of putting away entitlement
Week 4: “To Forgive” – the discipline of wholistic forgiveness
Week 5: “To Receive Forgiveness” – the discipline of accepting/embracing grace
In addition to this series, I have a few sermons from our Ecclesiastes series (Stop the World, I want to get Off) that have been dowloaded quite a bit…so while I’m at it, these might be useful to others as well:
STOP THE WORLD…I WANT TO GET OFF
Sermon 1: “Joyful Dissonance” – series introduction
Sermon 3: “Turn, Turn Turn” – there’s a season for…
Sermon 9: “Wisdom Clashes” – wisdom isn’t the magic pill
